Merab House Overview

I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Merab House on Tamar Mepe avenue, I wasn’t sure what to expect. The building itself has this sort of understated elegance that doesn’t scream for attention, which I actually appreciated after walking past some of the more flashy places closer to the Boulevard. What struck me right away was how the staff genuinely seemed to care about getting you settled in properly, not just rushing through the check-in process like you’re part of some assembly line.

The location is honestly one of those sweet spots that locals probably don’t want tourists to discover. You’re close enough to Batumi’s main action that you can walk to the seaside promenade in about ten minutes, but far enough up Tamar Mepe that you escape most of the late-night noise from the bars and casinos. I mean, you’ll still hear the occasional car, but it’s nothing like what you’d deal with if you stayed right on the waterfront. The rooms themselves feel thoughtfully put together – not trying too hard to be trendy, but comfortable in that lived-in way that makes you want to actually spend time there instead of just crashing for the night. The four-star rating feels about right, though I’d say they punch above their weight in some areas, especially when it comes to the little details that most places overlook.

What really won me over, though, was discovering how well-positioned you are for exploring the real Batumi. There’s this fantastic khachapuri place just two blocks down that I stumbled across purely by accident – the kind of spot where you’ll be the only non-Georgian at breakfast, which is always a good sign. And if you’re planning to venture out to places like the Botanical Garden or even take a day trip toward the Turkish border, you’re actually better positioned here than you’d be staying right in the tourist center. The 7.9 rating online makes sense to me – it’s the kind of place that does the fundamentals really well without any major surprises, good or bad. You know what I appreciated most? The windows actually open properly (you’d be surprised how many newer hotels seal you in completely), and there’s something satisfying about getting that fresh Black Sea breeze in the morning while you’re figuring out your day. It’s not going to change your life or become the highlight of your Georgia trip, but Merab House gives you exactly what you need to enjoy everything else Batumi has to offer.

Hotels in Batumi offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this coastal gem, with easy access to historic districts, vibrant nightlife, and renowned Black Sea beaches.

Reviews of Merab House

  • Perfect Stay! The owners are lovely, and their home made drinks are amazing! – Thomas from United Kingdom – August 14, 2025 (10/10)

    Everything!

What could be improved: NA, Perfect Stay

  • Good value for money for a few days stay with a very good location for public transportation – Erikperson from Sweden – April 30, 2024 (9/10)

This is my second stay within a week, perfect location to railway station (12 min. walk) and bus connection to the seaview in the city center, a simple room but ok for a few days stay. No table in the room for computer work, maybe there was in a common area, I hope so. In summer you could sit outside. However a good price and a very good sleep in the nice bed! Nice host welcoming you, they live downstairs.

What could be improved: As said above, missing a small table for computer. The cable if you should iron clothes seemed to be life dangerous and should be replaced, in the common area.

  • Nice host for a simple room to a good price with a very good location for public transport – Erikperson from Sweden – April 30, 2024 (9/10)

A very friendly host and a very good price for a simple room. But I slept better than normally in the nice bed. When it is warm you can sit outside, and maybe there are more possibilities that I did not have time to discover. I stayed here two times, travelling from and to Turkey. It is only 12 minutes walk to the railway station, and very close to the bus stop to take you frequently (pay with VISA or Master) to the seafront of Batumi city. So perfect location for me. In a villa area, but there are some shops on the opposite side from the seaview.

What could be improved: I would like to have had a chair and table for my computer work, in the room or in a common room, maybe there is, but I had not time to discover. However, a good low price for a simple but ok room.

  • Wonderful – Giles from France – December 1, 2023 (9/10)

Helpful, friendly staff. Good location for the border crossing

What could be improved: Some confusion about the location. Directions need to be improved

  • Wonderful – Stan from India – October 15, 2023 (9/10)

    The beach view

What could be improved: None to point out.

  • Very Good – Alex from Russia – September 22, 2023 (8/10)

    Excellent view!

  • Overall Pleasant – Brittney from United States – June 29, 2023 (6/10)

The staff was very helpful, welcoming, and kind. If we had any questions or issues, they helped us right away. They recommended some places to eat and which busses to take. When we requested to swap rooms, there was no problem. When we arrived late at night for check in, someone was there to greet us and was patient with our questions.
The room was large and more or less comfortable.

The hotel is far from the city center, but there is a bus station across the street and railroad. The views from the rooms are very nice. Especially at night when the city lights up!

There shore is near and it's very nice to walk along.

What could be improved: The wifi connection was poor, frequent power outages, and the curtain in our room didn't fully cover the window (so we had to make something for privacy). And during some party the staff were having, a guy just came into our room, didn't knock. He left quickly, but this scared me since my husband was busy.
The location can be noisy and there were many mosquitos in the room, but I wouldn't blame the staff much for this.

  • Exceptional – Baranau from Georgia – May 7, 2023 (10/10)

This is a nice place right at the seafront. Also, the city centre is within reach. We liked the breakfast we got in the morning a lot. All in all, I can recommend this place.

  • Pleasant – Victor from Denmark – September 23, 2022 (6/10)

cozy atmosphere, great view from the room. the garden was really cozy. we came one day earlier and the host was okay with that.

What could be improved: a bad smell in the room, especially in the toilet. pretty noisy with the trains just outside. there was a lack of introduction to the place, maybe that would have solved some of our questions. check out says 20.00 on booking.com the true time is 12.00
the washing machine is cheap, but not free
