Avangard Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Avangard on Palavandishvili Street, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard building. But you know what? Sometimes the best places are the ones that don’t try too hard to impress you from the outside.
This three-star spot sits right in the heart of Batumi, and I mean really in the heart of it – you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from the waterfront, which is perfect because honestly, that’s where you’ll want to spend most of your time anyway. The staff here actually seem to care, which sounds like a small thing but trust me, after staying at places where they barely look up from their phones, it makes a difference. Check-in was smooth, no drama, and the woman at reception gave me some solid tips about where to grab breakfast that weren’t the usual tourist traps everyone recommends.
The rooms are… well, they’re exactly what you’d expect from a decent three-star in Georgia. Clean, functional, with that slightly old-school Eastern European vibe that’s actually grown on me over the years. The beds are surprisingly comfortable – I slept better here than I did at a supposedly fancier place I tried in Tbilisi last month. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night, even though you’re right in the city center. I mean, you’ll hear some street noise during the day, but come evening it settles down nicely. The Wi-Fi actually works (always a gamble in this part of the world), and there’s decent water pressure in the shower, which honestly matters more than fancy marble when you’re dealing with Batumi’s humid summers.
Here’s what really sold me on this place though – the location puts you walking distance from both the old and new parts of the city. You can wander down to Europe Square in five minutes, hit the beach when you want to, but you’re also close enough to the more local neighborhoods where you can find those family-run restaurants that don’t have English menus but serve the best khachapuri you’ve ever had. The hotel doesn’t have a restaurant, but there’s a little café around the corner that does amazing Georgian coffee, and honestly, that’s better than being stuck with hotel breakfast anyway. Parking can be a bit tricky if you’re driving – the street gets pretty busy during the day – but there are spots if you’re patient.
Look, Avangard isn’t going to wow you with luxury amenities or Instagram-worthy lobbies, but it does something better: it gets out of your way and lets you actually experience Batumi. The 8.2 rating it’s got makes sense to me – it’s solid, reliable, and the kind of place where you feel like you’re staying somewhere real rather than some sanitized hotel bubble. If you want to be in the center of everything without paying resort prices, and you don’t need someone folding your towels into swan shapes, this is your spot.

Reviews of Avangard
Nice place for a short stay on a budget – Vadim from Georgia – September 10, 2025 (8/10)
The hotel met most expectations: it's a non-expensive place not far from the city center located on a busy street which essentially is a long crowded market. You can get to the old city of Batumi on foot in about 10 minutes. There's a nice elevator. The breakfast was okay, no buffet, just meals of the day which included some vegetables and cheese and a simple hot dish like fried eggs or sausages, but for this price it's hard to expect more. As shown on photos, there's no chair in the room, but the host was very kind to provide on at request. They also allowed a late checkout which was a kind gesture.
Swietny hotel w dobrej cenie. Taras na dachu. Polecam – Michal from Poland – August 17, 2025 (9/10)

I really enjoyed my stay — the room was clean and cozy, the bathroom was spotless and stocked with all the necessary toiletries. All the appliances worked well, and the bed was comfortable. The hotel has a café where you can have breakfast in the morning. Check-in is available 24/7, and the staff are very helpful and responsive.
What could be improved: At first, the location didn’t seem ideal, but in reality, the city center is within walking distance. I walked around at night and had no problems at all.Wonderful – Hasan from Turkey – July 27, 2025 (9/10)

Clean room and comfortable bed!
What could be improved: The walls are very thin, you hear everything from the next room. Was quite ok. – Aleksas from Lithuania – April 7, 2024 (7/10)
I liked the part of the town, and staff was helpful. Always there for you.
What could be improved: The breakfast was quite simple and a bit bland.
No options to chose from. Also quite salty.
The hotel was having a reconstruction, so during the day it was very loud from construction workers.
Also both days there was a party in 5th floor, the loudest place in the entire block.Incredibly loud but good-located and friendly. – Vasili from Belarus – August 28, 2023 (6/10)
The place is located in the old town in a short distance to the sea and city center. I had breakfast included and it was very tasty. Also, the guys at reception were awesome and incredibly friendly. Except the hairdryer there was everything I need for a short stay.
What could be improved: It looks like the walls were made of cardboard because I heard all the neighbours nearby. But the most annoying thing – too loud conditioner that makes the noize all the time even at night. Also, I couldn't find a hairdryer.
