I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Archie’s Apartment in Old Town, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a three-star place tucked away on Khulo Street. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds are the ones that surprise you, and this little gem absolutely delivered.

The location is actually perfect if you want to experience Batumi like a local rather than just another tourist. Khulo Street is this quiet residential stretch that’s close enough to the action but far enough away that you’re not dealing with the constant noise from the main boulevard. I mean, you can walk to the seaside promenade in about ten minutes, but when you come back at night, it’s peaceful – you’ll actually hear the sound of the Black Sea instead of traffic. The building itself has that classic Georgian charm, sort of weathered but in a good way, and Archie (yes, there’s actually an Archie) clearly takes pride in keeping everything spotless and welcoming.

What really struck me was how thoughtfully everything was set up. The apartment feels like someone’s actual home rather than a sterile rental – there are local art pieces on the walls, proper kitchen supplies if you want to cook with ingredients from the nearby market, and honestly, the bed was more comfortable than some fancy hotels I’ve stayed at. The bathroom has this great rainfall showerhead, which might seem like a small thing, but after walking around Batumi’s cobblestone streets all day, it’s exactly what you need. And here’s something you don’t always get in this price range – the WiFi actually works properly, even when the weather gets rough off the coast. Archie also leaves these little local recommendations written in surprisingly good English, pointing you toward family-run restaurants and wine bars that you’d never find on your own. I followed his advice about this tiny khachapuri place around the corner and it ended up being one of my favorite meals of the trip. The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you experience how much attention goes into the small details – fresh flowers, local coffee beans, even umbrellas by the door because he knows how quickly the weather can change near the sea. It’s the kind of place where you’ll end up staying longer than planned, not because there’s so much to do right there, but because it feels like a genuine base for exploring this fascinating corner of Georgia.
