I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to SunSet Apartments on Sherif Khimshiashvili Street, I wasn’t expecting much from what looked like a pretty standard residential building. But you know what? Sometimes the best finds in Batumi are the ones that don’t scream “tourist accommodation” from the street.

This three-star setup really surprised me in all the right ways. The apartments themselves are actually spacious – I mean, properly spacious, not that cramped “cozy” nonsense you usually get. Each unit has a proper kitchen where you can actually cook (the local market is just a few blocks away, and trust me, you’ll want to try cooking some fresh Georgian ingredients). The owners clearly put thought into the details too – decent Wi-Fi that doesn’t cut out every five minutes, proper blackout curtains for those summer mornings when Batumi’s sun hits early, and honestly, some of the most comfortable beds I’ve slept in along the Georgian coast.

What really sold me on this place, though, is the location. You’re far enough from the main tourist strip that you won’t hear drunk backpackers stumbling home at 3 AM, but close enough that you can walk to the Boulevard and the beach in about ten minutes. The neighborhood feels properly Georgian – there’s a great little bakery around the corner where the older ladies will try to feed you khachapuri whether you speak Georgian or not, and the local buses actually stop nearby if you want to venture out to the cable car or the botanical garden without dealing with taxi drama. Parking was never an issue either, which honestly surprised me given how chaotic car situations can get in Georgian cities. The building’s pretty quiet most of the time – I think it’s mostly locals and longer-term visitors rather than party crowds, which worked perfectly for me since I was trying to get some work done during my stay. The check-in was refreshingly straightforward too – no weird hidden fees or confusing key situations that seem to plague some of the fancier places in town. If I’m being picky, the shower pressure could be a bit stronger, and the street can get a little busy during morning rush hour, but we’re talking minor stuff here. For what you’re paying and what you get – especially that 9.7 rating that honestly feels earned – this place hits that sweet spot of feeling like a proper local experience without sacrificing comfort.
