When I first spotted Mariam Sea Towers on Khimshiashvili sherif street, I’ll be honest – the name had me expecting something way more imposing than what’s actually there. It’s this solid three-star place that sits pretty close to the action without being right in the thick of the tourist madness, which honestly turned out to be perfect.

The thing about Batumi is that you’ve got these massive resort complexes along the main strip, and then you’ve got places like this – sort of tucked into the residential side but still walkable to everything that matters. I mean, you’re maybe fifteen minutes on foot to the Boulevard (that’s what locals call the main beachfront promenade), but the neighborhood around the hotel feels more… I don’t know, authentic? You’ve got actual Georgian families living nearby, little corner shops where the owners remember your face after day two, that sort of thing. The sea views from the upper floors are legit too – not those partial glimpses you get at some places where they promise “sea view” and you’re craning your neck around a building.

What really surprised me was how quiet it gets at night. Batumi can be pretty intense during summer, especially on weekends when everyone’s out until dawn, but this street stays relatively calm. The staff – and this might sound like typical travel writing nonsense, but I swear it’s true – actually seem to enjoy their jobs. The woman at reception (I think her name was Nino?) gave me this whole rundown of where to find the best khachapuri that wasn’t just the tourist spots, and she was absolutely right. The rooms themselves are clean and functional without trying to be something they’re not – good AC, decent WiFi, hot water that actually stays hot. Nothing fancy, but you know what? Sometimes that’s exactly what you want. The elevator’s a bit slow, which only matters if you’re on one of the higher floors, and honestly, after a day of wandering around Batumi’s hills, I barely noticed. Parking can be a bit of a puzzle if you’ve got a rental car – it’s street parking mostly, but the staff will point you toward the spots where you’re less likely to get boxed in by someone’s uncle’s Lada.
