Maiko’s House Overview

You know what caught me off guard about Maiko’s House? The name makes it sound like some tiny homestay, but this three-star place actually feels way more polished than you’d expect. I stumbled across it tucked away on Tamar Mepe Street – honestly, I walked past the entrance twice because it’s nestled in this quiet pereulok that feels completely removed from the tourist chaos of central Batumi.

The whole setup reminds me of those boutique spots you discover by accident and then guard like a secret. Maiko (I’m assuming she’s the owner, though I never actually met her) has created something that splits the difference between a guesthouse and a proper hotel. The rooms have this lived-in comfort – nothing fancy, but everything works and feels intentional. I mean, the shower pressure was better than hotels I’ve paid twice as much for, and the beds are actually comfortable, not just Instagram-pretty. What really sold me was stepping out onto the little balcony in the morning with coffee and realizing how brilliantly quiet this street is, even though you’re maybe a ten-minute walk from all the waterfront madness.

Here’s the thing about this part of Batumi – most visitors stick to the main drags and miss these residential pockets where you can actually hear yourself think. From Maiko’s, you can wander down to the old town in one direction or hit the beach in the other, but you’re not drowning in the constant hum of traffic and tour groups. The 9.3 rating makes total sense once you spend a night there. It’s not trying to be luxury – there’s no fancy lobby or room service – but it nails all the stuff that actually matters when you’re traveling. The Wi-Fi doesn’t cut out every five minutes, there’s decent coffee available, and the whole place just feels… I don’t know, honest? Like someone actually cares about whether you sleep well and find your way around the neighborhood. Plus, parking isn’t a nightmare, which if you’ve driven in Batumi, you know that’s worth its weight in gold.

Hotels in Batumi offer visitors the opportunity to stay in the heart of this coastal gem, with easy access to historic districts, vibrant nightlife, and renowned Black Sea beaches.

  • An outstanding stay at Maiko's house – Harutyunyan from Armenia – August 9, 2024 (10/10)

We arrived late at night. Our hosts were waiting for us, welcomed us and we went to sleep. We have taken two 4-person rooms. Rooms were large, very clean, each had a bathroom with shower. Bed linen was clean, beds were comfortable, towels were provided. Each room had air conditioner, fridge, electric kettle, TV, wardrobe. Our rooms had separate balconies with fantastic view to hosts' large garden with several fruit trees (oranges, plums, etc.), surrounding beautiful nature and sea. On the first floor there was a washing machine, and ironing board. The Makhinjauri beach is in a 5-minute walk. In 3-minute walk distance there are supermarkets, pharmacies, fruit and vegetable stores, a puri bakery, a restaurant. Batumi is in 15-minute ride distance. The Batumi Botanical garden is in a 7-minute ride. Separately, I would like to mention that it is really quiet, so you can rest. Hosts provided a free parking for our 2 cars. On the yard there is an open-air kitchen with all the necessary equipment and a fireplace for barbeque. Our hosts are amazing and hospitable people. We tried their home-made delicious wine and tkemali (a plum sause for a meat). They adviced us where to go, how to go, what to do, helped and supported with everything we needed. Despite the short stay (5 nights) we had a great and memorable holiday. I absolutely recommend Maiko's house.

What could be improved: There are mosquitos in the evening, so it is great to have an antimosquito spray.

Clean, comfortable bed. Schlaraffia bed, such comfort. I had a view direct to the sea on my balcony upstairs. Maiko is very polite and accommodating. I only wish March was not so cold! April thru August is amazing weather and many memorable places to enjoy! There is a big Bazaar close by if you take bus route 6 or 8. The city bus costs is a little more than 10¢. Thank you so very much!
