House on the Beach Overview
You know what surprised me most about House on the Beach? It’s actually not right on the beach – I mean, the name’s a bit misleading – but honestly, that turned out to be a good thing. This three-star place sits on Sherif Khimshiashvili Street, which is maybe a seven-minute walk from the water, and that little distance means you get all the beachy vibes without the constant crowds trampling past your window at 6 AM.
The apartment-style setup really grew on me. I was expecting something more hotel-like, but it’s essentially a residential building where you get apartment 60 (they’re pretty specific about that). The elevator’s one of those old Soviet-era contraptions that makes interesting noises, but it works fine – just don’t be in a rush. What I loved was having an actual kitchen and space to spread out, which you definitely don’t get in most Batumi hotels at this price point. The balcony view isn’t spectacular or anything, but you can catch glimpses of the Black Sea between buildings, and there’s something nice about watching the neighborhood come alive in the mornings. Local families heading to work, kids playing in the courtyard – it feels real, you know?
The location is actually pretty clever once you figure out the area. You’re close enough to walk to the main beachfront and all those flashy casinos, but far enough away that you can sleep without bass lines thumping through the walls until 4 AM. There’s a little grocery store literally around the corner where the owner speaks decent English (rare for this neighborhood), and honestly, the khachapuri from the bakery two blocks down is better than anything I had in the tourist zone. Getting around is easy too – marshrutkas stop right at the end of the street, and taxi drivers actually know where Sherif Khimshiashvili is, which isn’t always guaranteed with some of the newer hotels tucked away in random spots. The whole experience felt less like staying in a hotel and more like temporarily living in Batumi, which I think some travelers would really appreciate while others might find it too low-key.
