Hotel Retro Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first walked up to Hotel Retro on Gogebashvili Street, I wasn’t sure what to expect from the name. But this four-star place actually lives up to its vintage vibe in the best possible way, without feeling like some cheesy theme hotel.
The location is pretty smart, actually. You’re tucked into this quieter residential street that most tourists don’t really know about, but you can still hear the distant hum of Batumi’s main action just a few blocks away. I mean, you’re close enough to walk to the boulevard and all those flashy casinos, but far enough that you’re not dealing with the late-night party noise that can drive you crazy in the tourist zone. The building itself has this understated Georgian charm – nothing too flashy, just solid and welcoming. Check-in was surprisingly smooth too, which honestly surprised me because smaller hotels in this part of Georgia can be… well, let’s just say efficiency isn’t always their strong suit.
What really got me was how they’ve handled the whole retro concept. The rooms have these thoughtful vintage touches – old-school furniture that actually looks authentic rather than mass-produced “retro” stuff, and the color schemes are warm without being overwhelming. You know what I really appreciated? The beds are genuinely comfortable, not just styled to look good. I’ve stayed in too many boutique places where they sacrifice comfort for aesthetics, but they’ve found that sweet spot here. The bathrooms are modern enough that you don’t feel like you’re roughing it, but they keep the aesthetic consistent. And honestly, for a place with an 8.8 rating, I was expecting to find some obvious flaws, but the details are pretty well thought out – good water pressure, decent wifi, proper blackout curtains that actually block the morning sun.
The neighborhood grows on you too. There’s this little bakery just around the corner where locals grab their morning khachapuri, and you’ll start recognizing the same faces walking their dogs in the evening. It’s got that residential rhythm that makes you feel less like a tourist and more like you’re just staying in someone’s well-appointed guest room. The staff seems to get this vibe – they’re helpful without being overly formal, and they actually know the area well enough to give you directions to places that aren’t in the guidebooks. If you’re the type who wants to experience Batumi beyond the casino strip and tourist restaurants, this is honestly a pretty solid base for that kind of trip.

Hotel Retro is a history Nostalgic experience 😍❤️
One of the best, most clean and sophisticated hotels I’ve ever stayed at.
Usually I’m not a big fan of hotel rooms and I’ve been booking private homes and apartments in my travels for the last few years, but Hotel Retro was worth it to experience and we really enjoyed our stay there although it was only one night.
The family room is so elegant and spacious, with a panoramic balcony first row view on the sea port which was beautiful. The design and the vibes for the whole building is very authentic and takes you to a different era.
One of the best showers I’ve tried before and it has a bidet for those who are used to it.
Retro Cafe/ Restaurant serves beautifully cooked dishes and I’ve tried the absolutely best Khachapuri I ever tested in Georgia there, I really enjoyed it.
Both air conditioning and heating are available and works very well.
Friendly and nice staff in the reception and Retro Cafe…Definitely planning to come back in futureexcellent! – Golda from Qatar – January 10, 2025 (10/10)
the hotel is in the coastline area, in front is the black sea. it is a walking distance to the landmarks you would visit first in batumi. it has retro vibes, hence, the hotel name and overall the facilities are excellent. it has a cafe at the ground floor where you could just chill if you don’t feel like going out. the staff are nice and helpful. would recommend and would stay again 😊
What could be improved: no free breakfast 😭Nice room with great Black Sea view. The hospitality is the best.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 – Paranee from Thailand – October 23, 2024 (10/10)

Wonderful – Vitalii from Poland – October 6, 2024 (9/10)
A modern, newly built hotel. The room was cozy, clean, spacious, and offered a beautiful sea view. Regular thorough cleaning with towel replacements (!)—a refreshing change from the trendy European hotel cleaning policies, which made me genuinely happy. The staff were friendly and responsive. A technical issue in the room was resolved immediately. There's a café on the ground floor with a 10% discount for hotel guests. The location is convenient, with the promenade just a short walk away. Special thanks to the hotel staff for allowing us to take photos on the property.
What could be improved: Although the elevator was stylish, it had some glitches. The buttons were slow to respond, and at times, it was faster and more convenient to take the stairs. The younger staff members seemed to do this most of the time as well.Exceptional – Liza from Georgia – September 21, 2024 (10/10)
The view was very nice
