Hotel Monarch Overview
I’ll be honest – when I first pulled up to Hotel Monarch on Akhmed Melashvili Street, I wasn’t expecting much from the outside. It’s tucked into this quiet residential stretch about a 15-minute walk from the main Batumi Boulevard action, which actually turned out to be one of its best features. You know what I mean? Sometimes you want to be close enough to everything but not right in the middle of the tourist chaos.
The thing that really struck me about this four-star place was how the staff seemed to actually care – and I’ve stayed in enough hotels to spot the difference. The woman at reception remembered my name after one night and knew I liked extra pillows without me asking twice. The rooms themselves are surprisingly spacious for Batumi standards, with these big windows that let in tons of light. I had a corner room on the fourth floor and could see snippets of the Black Sea between the buildings if I craned my neck just right. The bathroom was properly modern too – you’d be surprised how many places in this part of town still have those tiny Soviet-era fixtures, but not here. Everything felt thoughtfully updated without being flashy about it.
What I really appreciated was the breakfast situation. They do this spread that’s half Georgian, half international, and honestly, their khachapuri was better than what I got at some of the touristy spots down by the seaside. Plus, they serve it until 11 AM, which is a godsend if you’ve been out sampling Batumi’s nightlife the evening before. The location works brilliantly once you figure it out – there’s a little marshrutka stop practically at the corner that’ll get you to the old town in five minutes for about 50 tetri, or it’s a pleasant walk through some of Batumi’s actual neighborhoods rather than just the polished tourist bits. I actually enjoyed wandering back in the evenings, grabbing wine from the little shop across the street, and people-watching from my room. The whole area gets this nice evening breeze off the water, and it’s quiet enough that you can sleep with the windows open – something you definitely can’t do if you’re staying right on the main strip where the music goes until dawn.

Friendly staff, allowed us to leave our bags securely as we arrived a long time before check in. Complimentary bottle of wine was appreciated. Large room with a large balcony, beautiful zebra wood furniture, large comfortable bed, good Aircon, large TV, reasonable prices of food/beer in hotel (unlike the Radisson which is totally overpriced beer).
Facilities are great, billiards, sauna, therapies, jazz bar with great live music on the roof terrace.
Breakfast was good, a large selection to keep any nationality happy.
