Grand Georgian Palace Overview
You know what caught me off guard about Grand Georgian Palace? For a hotel basically sitting in the airport district, it actually feels like you’re staying somewhere special rather than just crashing near your flight. I mean, Airport Settlement isn’t exactly where you’d expect to find a polished four-star property, but here we are.
The thing about staying out here is that you’re maybe fifteen minutes from central Batumi by taxi, which honestly isn’t terrible – and the drivers know this route like the back of their hand since it’s such a straight shot from the terminal. What I really appreciated was how quiet it gets at night. Sure, you’ll hear the occasional plane, but it’s not that constant city buzz you get closer to the boulevard. The rooms have this sort of understated Georgian elegance going on – think rich fabrics and dark wood without going overboard on the traditional stuff. My room faced away from the runway, and I actually slept better than I expected.
The staff here really seems to get the whole transit hotel thing without making it feel impersonal. Check-in was smooth even when I rolled up pretty late, and they had this genuine helpfulness that you don’t always find at airport properties. The restaurant surprised me too – I was expecting typical hotel food, but they do this interesting mix of Georgian and international dishes that actually works. Their khachapuri isn’t going to win any authenticity contests, but it’s solid comfort food after a long travel day. Honestly, if you’re flying in late or out early from Batumi, this place makes way more sense than dealing with the hassle of getting into the city center just to turn around and come back. Plus, there’s something kind of nice about having that buffer zone between the chaos of travel and actually starting your Georgian adventure – or winding it down before heading home.
