Look, I’ll be honest – when I first heard about Apartment Medea Batumi, I wasn’t expecting much from a three-star place. But you know what? Sometimes the best discoveries come from lowered expectations, and this little gem on Gorgiladze Street completely caught me off guard.

The location is actually brilliant if you know Batumi at all. Gorgiladze runs parallel to the main tourist drag, which means you’re close enough to walk to everything – the boulevard, the beach, those crazy modern towers – but far enough away that you’re not dealing with drunk tourists stumbling around at 3 AM. I mean, flat 12 is on a higher floor, so even when there is street noise, it’s pretty muted. The building itself is one of those Soviet-era blocks that’s been given new life, and honestly, there’s something charming about the way locals have transformed these places into proper accommodations.

What really impressed me was how thoughtfully everything’s been set up inside. The owner (I’m guessing Medea herself, though I never actually met her) has clearly spent time thinking about what travelers actually need. The kitchen isn’t just for show – it’s got proper cookware, decent knives, even some basic spices left behind by previous guests. There’s this little balcony that catches the morning sun perfectly, and if you crane your neck just right, you can actually see a sliver of the Black Sea between the buildings. The Wi-Fi is solid, which matters more than people admit, and the hot water pressure is surprisingly good for this part of town. I’ve stayed in places twice the price where you’re basically getting a sad drizzle.

The 9.7 rating makes total sense once you’re there – it’s not trying to be fancy, but everything works exactly as it should. Check-in was smooth (they use one of those lockbox systems, so no waiting around), and the whole place feels clean without that sterile hotel vibe. The bed is actually comfortable, not just adequate, and there are enough outlets near it for all your devices. Small things, but they add up. The neighborhood has this lived-in feel that you don’t get staying right on the waterfront – there’s a little bakery two blocks down that does these incredible khachapuri in the mornings, and you’ll hear Georgian being spoken more than Russian or English, which feels more authentic somehow. During shoulder season especially, this area has a really peaceful quality that makes you feel like you’re experiencing the real Batumi, not just the tourist version of it.
